Show VISITORS COMING IN FOR BIG STATE Fl Large Attendance Expected When the Gates Swing Open Tomorrow. EVERYTHING IS READY Exposition Promises to Be the Greatest Ever Given in the State. The 'advance guard of visitors to the Utah state fair began arriving in the city yesterday in noticeable numbers. The fair will open at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. At the hotels and in the restaurants of the city the arrival of outsiders became apparent. Nearly all of the trains into the city yesterday brought In visitors from points In the state, with tha result that the hotel registers began to show an Increased In-creased number of names and the- eating houses of the city were more than ordinarily ordi-narily busy. It is expected that a still larger number num-ber of visitors will arrlvetoday, many of them coming in early to'do shopping for the fall and winter, before the regular fair and conference rush commences. Judging from present indications there will be a large crowd on hand to witness the opening of the fair Saturday. Ready for Opening. Practically everything at the grounds Is In readiness for the opening. Large forces of workmen are busily engaged., getting the exhibits into shape, and it is declared by the fair officials that when the hour for opening the gates arrives tomorrow morning everything will be In perfect shape. j The opening day is to be Fairbanks day, 1 and the candidate for vice president will arrive on the grounds promptly at 4 : 15 and will immediately address the crowd from a box reserved for him In front of the grandstand. Before time for the former vice president presi-dent to arrive there will be a programme of sports carried out for the entertainment entertain-ment of first-day visitors to the fair. This will consist of a pushball contest between teams from the West and East high schools, and automobile races. Aviator on Ground. Louis Gertson, the aviator, arrived in the city yesterday and his biplane came with him. The machine has already been taken to the grounds and is being put together to-gether for the flights which the aviator vail make afternoons and evenings during dur-ing the fair. Gertson says that while Salt Lake is already pretty high in the air, from a standpoint of altitude, he will be able to ascend many hundreds of feet higher and will have an opportunity to make some remarkable demonstrations with his machine at night, when It will be lighted, and when' he will give a fireworks fire-works exhibition. The auto polo teams are to arrive Sunday. The Jordan and Granite district schools will have a holiday Monday so that the children of these institutions of learning may attend the fair. The regular school children's day will be Friday of next week. Dr. Harris Is Here. Dr. F. S. Harris, expert agricultural chemist In charge of the experiment work of the Utah Agricultural college, has come down from Logan to take charge of the experiment station exhibit at the state fair. Dr. Harris declares that the exhibit of the experiment station will be a credit to the Agricultural college and to the state in every particular. C W. Adney of Corinne, who is noted for his Hereford cattle, arrived at the Hotel Utah last night to take charge of installing his exhibit of line cattle at the fair. He says he will have some excellent stock td exhibit. |
