Show CHINESE MINISTER DECLINES TO TALK Declines to Discuss Cabled Announcement Announce-ment That He Had Resigned on Account of His Health. WASHINGTON. Sept. 28'. Dr. V. K. Wellington Koo, the Chinese minister here, declined today to discuss the cabled ca-bled announcement from Pekin that he had resigned on account of ill health. He could not be seen, and the only word sent to callers was that the report of his illness was quite true. The state department had no information from the legation at Pekin. In diplomatic quarters it was suggested sug-gested that the minister probably had sent iu his resignation as a matter of courtesy to Li Yuan Hung, the new president, his appointment having been made by the late Yuan Shi Kai. Reports of a disagreement between Dr. Koo and Tang Shao Yi were not understood because be-cause the minister always has been Tang's protege and married his favorite daughter. Moreover, it was pointed out Tang refused the foreign office portfolio this week and now has no connection with the government. Dr. Koo has been ill for two weeks, and is said to have a bad case of hay-fever. |
