Show WAR HOLDING DOWN MONEY ORDER MAIL Foreign Business Subsides to Nearly ! Normal at Local Post- office. j The foreign money order business at the local postoffice has subsided prac-; tically to normal conditions, according to a statement issued today by Postmaster Post-master .Noble Warrum. Although a large number of money orders were issued is-sued for pavment in foreign countries duriug the Christmas season, the total was far below that for the years immediately im-mediately preceding-the European war. The return to their home lands of many young men who formerly sent considerable con-siderable sum 3 back to the old folks at Christmas time had mui-h to do with this decrease, as did the fact that the government, despite determined eiforts, is unable to guarantee safe and speedy delivery of money orders in the war zone. Virtually no money orders were sent to Russia, largely because Warsaw, which was the central station for the payment of orders, now is in the war zone. In former years Russians in the United States led all the remaining foreign-born citizens in- sending money home for Christmas. With delivery in Italy and Greece comparatively -safe, natives of those munt ris are leading all 1 re-:t this ''hristmas in sending money home. Nor-wav, Nor-wav, Sweden and Denmark are no receiving re-ceiving a tfood share of the Christmas monev orders, as their former citizens in this country are prosperous now -and are remembering the old folks at j , home.
