Show BOfiUIUPTO BE HELDAT OGDEN Transfer From Logan Made Because of the More Central Cen-tral Location. Special to The Tribune. OGDEX, Dec. 16. General plana for the annual state conference of farmers and housekeepers to be held in this city January 22 to 28, 1917, were worked out today when Professor Lorin A. Merrill Mer-rill of the extension department of the Utah Agricultural college attended a regular meeting of the Weber County Farm bureau. The annual roundup has heretofore been held at Logan, but was transferred to Ogden this year because of the more central locatio'n. Interest in 1 the forthcoming annual meeting already indicates, according to members of the college extension department de-partment and farm bureau directors, a record attendance for the Ogden sessions. ses-sions. In discussing various phases of the work to be taken up during the week, D. D. McKay, president of the local bureau, said it was his desire to' transport the agricultural college from Logan to Ogden for the week. In order or-der to give the farmers and housekeepers housekeep-ers of the state all of the benefits possible, pos-sible, Professor Merrill declared that the extension department would do its part in the temporary removal. It is probable that the general sessions ses-sions of the conference will be held in the Ogden tabernacle during the week of January 22, and the department work in the Third ward buildings, which are located near the tabernacle. As outlined by the bureau officials, the department subjects will include the following: Plant diseases, with special spe-cial attention to sugar beets, peas and tomatoes; veterinary; livestock feeding, feed-ing, with special attention to beef, hogs, sheep and dairy stock; poultry; irrigation irriga-tion and drainage. Definite plan3 for the housekeepers' division of the annual conference nave not been worked out, but as announced today will include lectures and demonstrations demon-strations ,by many of the leading instructors in-structors in the state colleges and other schools. In connection with the week's conference there will be displays of farm machinery and other apparatus of interest to the farmers and housekeepers. housekeep-ers. Professor Merrill announced that the programme probably will be completed and approved by the extension department depart-ment by next Thursday and in time for its consideration at a special meeting of the local farm bureau on Saturday. At the same meeting special committees will be appointed to obtain special railroad rail-road rates for the state meeting, provide pro-vide for buildings in which to hold the conference sessions and make all other necessary plans. |
