Show SALT LAKERS ENJOY BREEZES AND MUSIC Lawns, Trees and Shrubbery and Good Concerts at Parks Appreciated. It may have been hot downtown yesterday yes-terday afternoon, but there were many people who didn't fret about it, for they spent the greater pa rf. of the day in Liberty park, where the inviting stretches of cool green lawns spread for everybody every-body iinder the shade of many trees. Sunday is "family" day at the parks, and yesterday everybody, from grandfather to three-year-old JImmie, found comfort and joy to suit his heart's desire in the city's pleasure place. Little Jimmle liked the bears and the elk and the monkey case most, but grandfather grand-father was equally pleased to sit in the grove and listen to the band concert. This concert, by the way, was excellent yesterday. yes-terday. Held's Military band played from 4 until 6 o'clock, and probably tho selection selec-tion that was given most applause by the large feathering was the "Hungarian Rhapsody," by Liszt. The other numbers met with almost equal favor. .Many an automobile turned from the city streets into the tree-lined avenues of the park for a spin around the smooth, dustless avenues, but there was never a sign of an accident, even with the thousands of children that ran hither and yon at the many games in progress. Pioneer park was also crowded to capacity from early morning till long after tho band concert had ended at 9 o'clock. Chlsholm's Concert band provided tho music. "Albion," a fantasia on Scotch, Irish and English airs, delighted tho cosmopolitan cos-mopolitan audience, for there were snatches of such worldwide favorites as "The Blue Eells of Scotland," "Annie Laurie" and "The British Grenadiers," as well as others from the home countries of many who listened. Some have asserted that the city parks are too heavy an expense, but had they made a visit to those rest places yesterday yester-day their opinion would be changed, for there were literally thousands who had a bit of fresh air, the touch of green grass, and the feel of the open nlr yesterday that otherwise would have been denied. |
