Show VOTE TO RECONSIDER APPOINTMENT FAILS Fight to Keep George E. Kuhlee on Fed-; eral Trade Commission Is Finally Ended. j WASHINGTON, May 23. The admin- j istration 's effort to have the senate reconsider its refusal to confirm the ! nomination of George E. Eublee of New Hampshire as a member of the federal! trade commission, failed late today bv a tie vote of an to ;s8. . This ends the fight to keep Mr. Rublce on the commission, where he lias been serving for fifteen months. He probably prob-ably will continue in office under president presi-dent Wilson's recess appointment until near the end of this session of congress, although he can draw no salary for either past or future services. Senatorial courtesy blocked confirmation confirma-tion of the nomination. The nominee's ability or integrity were not questioned. "Tint Senator Gallmger, the Republican leader, opposed him on the ground that he had been "personally obnoxious" in opposing him for re-election. Today's action was on a motion by Senator Hollis to reconsider the vote by which the senate last week re jected the nomination, nomin-ation, 42 to 36. |
