Crabbe, county commissioner, i successfully played the role of policeman at 10 o'clock last night by capturing a man, who is now in the city Jail charged with attempted holdup. Mr. Crabbe took his prisoner to the police station, .where he turned hi in over to Captain E. V. Johnson and Carl Caratensen, city de-, tectlvc. Mr. Crabbe was walking along First South street, near Second East, when he saw J. Goodman, proprietor of a grocery store at 175 East First South street, struggling with a man. Mr. Crabbe, ran across to tlte store just as the man broke away from ioodman and fled across the street. Mr. Goodman shouted that he had been held upv and both he and Mr. Crabbe started in pursuit of the fleeing man. Mr. Crabbe was the fleetest of foot and reached the man first, grabbing him around the neck. The man showed fight, but, after an exchange of blows, he allowed al-lowed himself to be led to headquarters. "I saw the struggle, heard the grocery-man grocery-man Bhout and knew that something was wrong." said Mr. Crabbe, modestly, "so went to his assistance." He then left the station before Chief B. F. Grant, who came out of his off fee as the man waa brought in, could compliment him. J. Goodman, the groceryman, told police po-lice officials that the man, who gave his name as C. A. McDonald and his occupation occupa-tion as a pressman, came Into the store and made a small purchase. Win en the groeeryman's , back was turned the man shouted ''Hands up!" Goodman turned, confronted the man and grabbed a piece of iron pipe which was lying handy. He struck at the man, who dodged and caught the blow on the right shoulder. He then grappled with Goodman, and the two struggled toward the door. When McDonald saw Mr. Crabbe approaching he broke away and ran. No gun was used, according to Goodman, and none was found on McDonald when lie was searched. Ho was locked up on a charge of attempted robbery, and is held without ball. |
