Show HOI FROM A If IN OPTIMISTIC MOOD Frank E. McGurrin Sees Prosperous Times Ahead for Country. F. F.. McGurrin. president of th Salt Lake Security & Trust company, returned yesterday from an extended business trip tliat took hi in to tho Allantic coast, back to tho Fa c ill c c oa a t and h om e a&ai n. While gone Mr. McGurrin visited, among other cities, Boston, New Orleans, Kansas Kan-sas City and San Francisco. Discussing business imnressionH gained from his trip Mr. McGurrin said: Money easy, business dull. That Is the universal expression of bankers and business men from New York to San Francisco. In other words, It is . stas:na Hon. This condition always follows liquidation and precedes activity. ac-tivity. Just how loni: these conditions will continue is uncertain. Besides the usual q ues! ions of tariff, crops, etc.. there is the question of the Kuropcan. war. which is a new factor in the problem. Already there are indications of a resumption of activity in manufacturing, manufactur-ing, which is tho basin of all activity. No matter how timid capital is, it does not like to remain idle very lonff-The lonff-The new channels of trade opened up by tlie war aro becoming" mre apparent ap-parent : very day and the enterprising enterpris-ing ones are about to take advantage of them. The ieellne: now is that if the war continues for a period of years, practically ah of the money in Europe will bo drained to this country for the purchase of supplies. Jf. on the othtsr hand, it terminates soon there will be an unprecedented demand for steel, copper and all manufactured products, which will brim? about the greatest period of activity ac-tivity tills country has known. It is also evident that with tho cessation of the war millions of immigrants im-migrants from TCurope will come to this country through tlie Panama canal to the west coast. These people, peo-ple, seeking homes, will swarm alt over this region, where good land can he had at low prices. Utah is sure to get its full share of the benefits of this, as it offers better inducements to the settler llian any of the states, considering price of land and tho yield from it. A united effort on our part to advertise those attractions will produce splendid results. |
