Show TRACTION COMPANY ASKS FOR HEARING City Attorney Makes Ruling That "Jitney Buses" Noed No Franchise. No franchise is needed for the operation opera-tion of the "jitney buses" in Salt Lake. according to the opinion of the city attorney at-torney given to tlie city commission last night. The attorney advised that the only regula Uon of the business lies in the licensing power of the city, under which the new company will hav to pay the city $30 'a year for each four-passenger car in service and $-10 a year for each car of greater capacity, up to ten passengers, pas-sengers, and $fi0 for each car carrying more than ten passengers. The commission was notified, however, that the Utah Light & Traction company, which operates the street railway system, desired to be heard on the subject before be-fore the auto company was authorized to do business, and accordingly tho matter was laid over till Thursday morning. It is understood that the street car company will object to allowing the "Jitney "Jit-ney buses" to opcrato without a franchise. |
