Damage that has been variously estimated from to .440110 resulted this morning when the home of John M. Browning, inventor of firearnis, was swept bv fire. The residence; resi-dence; which is elaborate-.- furnished and contains many valuables, is at .ri"o Twentv-seventh street. Due to the fact that ail members of the family, with the exception of a s.on, Kenneth Browning, are in California, it will be impossible to obtain anything like an accurate estimate es-timate of the loss until their return. Among these are a life-size portrait of the inventor which was painted by a European artist; art-ist; trophies that have been presented to Mr. Browning by the government of Belgium and a grand piano valued at $2000. Expensive rugs, valuable articles ar-ticles of furniture ami rich turnishings in general, together with the damage to the house, will run the loss into thousands, thou-sands, it is believed by friends of the inventor. |
