Show FAKE MEDICINES. Officials in charge of the enforcement of the pure food and drug act have recently re-cently seized several shipments of worthless imitation drug products. The articles in question are imitations of high-priced paten! medicines oj foreign origin. Only a small quantity of these medicines have been imported since the war began and the prices have natural-lv natural-lv advanced. I'nscrupulous manufacturers manufac-turers are taking advantage of this condition con-dition of affairs and attempting to reap a harvest by substituting for the genuine genu-ine medicines cheap chemicals with no medicinal value whatever. That fraud is intended is shown by the fact that in addition to using false labels these manufacturers, who would risk becoming murderers for the sake of gain, send out peddlers who deliver the imitation medicines as soon as a sale is made. This method protects the man ufacturer from suit or arrest, for the articles canoot be traced to him in most cases. Reputable druggists of course do not do business with itinerant medicine peddlers. Those who do buy of such people should not be allowed to continue con-tinue in Ihe business, for they are a constant con-stant menace to the public health. |
