Show DR. WAYNE SMITH, formerly for-merly of this city, who died in Detroit, Mich. f - A FORMER SALT LAKER 13 DEAD 1 DETROIT Dr. Wayne Smith Succumbs to Hemorrhage of Brain Due to Overwork. Word was received here last night from Detroit of the death of Dr. Wayne Smith, son of Dr. A. K. Smith of Salt Lake and a brother of Dana T. Smith, general attorney for the Salt Lake Route. Dr. Smith died Friday night after a short illness from hemorrhage of the brain, caused by overwork. Information regarding Dr. Smith's illness ill-ness was received here Thursday morning morn-ing and Dana T. Smith left Thursday noon for his brother's bedside. He should have arrived in Detroit last night. Jt is possible that the body may be brought to Salt Lake for burial, but the funeral arrangements have not been announced. Dr. Smith was born in Salt Lake thirty-nine years ago. He received his early education in old St. Mark's school here and then graduated from Washington Washing-ton university, St. Louis. For several years he was engaged in equipping hospitals hos-pitals throughout the United Slates and Canada. About six years ago he wns placed at the head of the City hospital m St. Louis. His work there was of such a character that about a year ago he was engaged to take charge of the Harper hospital, the largeBt hospital in Detroit. He was ambitious and applied all his energy to the work, which was exceedingly neavy and of a trying nature. na-ture. Although his health did not appear ap-pear to bef dangerously affected by the work, it was not as good as in former years. Tho attack Wednesday came unexpectedly. un-expectedly. Dr. Smith was married to Miss Elizabeth Eliza-beth Bell of St. Lrfuis about fifteen years ago. He is survived by his widow and three children, Leverett, Wayne and Amos Kendall of Detroit; his father, Dr. A. K. Smith, and one brother, Dana T. Smith, both of Salt Lake. |
