Farmers of Utah and other western irrigated states will be told In a practical way how to properly drain their wa tor-logged tor-logged or alkali land, in a bulletin which was completed and sent vesterdav to Washington. D. C. by R A. Hart, United States western drainage engineer, with headquarters In the local federal building. The bulletin Is declared by Mr. Hart to be tho ilrst of Its kind ever Issued and Is the result of his personal Investigation In the west for several years and of reports re-ports from his engineers In Idaho, "Washington. "Wash-ington. Montana, New Mexico. Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. The bulletin comprises sixty printed pages and about forty Illustrations. It will probably be issued from Washington in two months. All farmers who wish copies may then secure them. The bulletin prepared by Mr. Hart differs dif-fers from all previous bulletins regarding drainage, In that it tcllB In n clear, comprehensive com-prehensive way exactly how any farmer may drain hlo land, giving directions as to what sort of a drainage "system to use, where to place the drains, how deep to lay them, and describing the machinery necessary. There have been numerous drainage bulletins Issued by states, government, gov-ernment, and by agricultural colleges, but all fell short of their purpose. accord-Ins accord-Ins to Mr, Hart, by only telling the possibilities possi-bilities of drainage or reciting what has been done along thnt line. The bulletin takes up both tllo and .open drainage systems, dividing the subject sub-ject matter Into design, construction, subsequent sub-sequent treatment, results, costs, co-operative work and a general conclusion. Mr. Hart says that it Is a bulletin of which every fanner in the Irrigated west should have a copy. |
