Crowded houscu greeted all throe shows, nnd tho bill la such that there will undoubtedly be big crowds at all the rest of the performances per-formances this week. The headllner Is easy to pick, oven though a person did not know that it Is the highest priced act of them all. The story of the musical play is that of a man of Alaska who found a wee baby girl In the snow lxwlde her dying parents and raised her to young womanhood. She thinks ho Is her father and he lots her ueueve una. even though he is in lovo with her. All the boys of the town are in love with her. including a villainous Mexican half-breed. The plot is a woll-dcrincd woll-dcrincd one and ends lmppllv. There Is Just enough gun play to give the right frontier touch. Throughout the act songs are Introduced, and every member of tho troupe can sing. Miss Agnes Cain Brown takes the part of the girl. She Is not only pretty, but can act well and sing benutifully. The leading man, Harry Ol-rard, Ol-rard, Is pleaBlng In the part of the foster-father foster-father and lover. The stage settings are pretty and the scenic offucts good The novelty playlet. "Ambition." given by Helen Nelson and Edwin Keough, probably ranks next to the headllner. Willie the plot of the sketch Is not exactly exact-ly coherent, tho scenic effects nnd quick changes of setting are good enough to mnke the act acceptable, and Keough is really a good actor. However, his ohar-1 ohar-1 uclerlza lions are somewhat overdrawn Weston aud Leon, two pretty girls, who play the piano and sing, have some clever songs which they put across in a manner that took with the audience. The one who sings is tho better of the two. but she rould Improve hor stac appearance by breaking' herself of the habit of staring at the lloor. The other young woman can fairly make the piano talk with ragtime IS. J. Moore, billed as the "talkative trlxtor." certainly lives up to the description. descrip-tion. His line of talk Is much better than his tricks, as the former Is mnstlv now Htuff, while tlie latter are mostly" those that have been shown many times. At thnt. the audience did not give him thq applause that he merits. The Pnanlsh Goidlnls ha'e a novelty spinning oct. In which a number of aero-! batlc ".stunts' are introduced. The youngest member of the four, a girl, pleased more than did tho elders. ! Tim animated weekly shows some ex-' collent news pictures, among them being1 one taken recently in Salt Lake when Washington Gardner, commander-in-chief of the G. A. R.. was here. The picture pic-ture shows the parade of local policemen and high school cadets, and also Governor Gov-ernor Spry Introducing Goneral Gardner. The picture of the governor Is an especially espe-cially good one. Thrills, throbs and laughs w(ll make up the moving-picture programme at tin; Empress Em-press for the balance of the week.
