Show B. H. ROBERTS GIVES DOCTRINAL SERMON Mormon Elder Declares Trend of Modern Mod-ern Thought Supports L. D. S. Toneta. Elder Brigham H. Roberts occupied tho pulpit In the Mormon tabernacle yesterday, yester-day, giving a vigorous and optimistic discourse dis-course along tho line of the doctrine of tho church that he represents. Tho service serv-ice was the quarterly conference of "Ensign "En-sign stako and mosl of the officers of the stake were present, occupying the high seats of the tabernacle. Growing Interest In religion and religious reli-gious thought and Investigation was held by Elder Roberts as significant and extremely ex-tremely gratifying. He explained that great and profound thinkers were coming to look upon the fundamental principles with which religion deals, and which he said had been set forth for the faithful by the prophet, Joseph Smith. Chief among the principles mentioned -was the personality of man In the life after death, Elder Roberts quoting from eminent philosophers phil-osophers and from statements by business men and others In an effort to show that the belief In such a personality was becoming be-coming more popular. Although Elder Roberts referred to the methods of the great thinkers of today as plodding, he expressed joy that they should in their Investigations be groping toward the truth, as It was revealed to Joseph Smith and others of the Mormon prophets. It was given to the Mormon people, the speaker explained, by God in his mercy and by his own generous hand, and It was not tainted with skepticism. Joseph S. Wells of the presidency of Ensign stake presided at the services and prayers were offered by Thomas A. Williams Wil-liams and Frank R. Snow. Mrs. Charles Tay'.or sang "My Redeemer and My Lord." and the choir sang "Come, Dearest Dear-est Lord." "Though Deep'nlng Trials Throng Tour Way," and "Song of the Redeemer." |
