The object of the night classes is to briuir within tho fold of the public HS school system those children to whom fortune lias denied the opportunities or l the regular scliool days. Need Appears Evident. Hf That the plan is meeting with popu- H-l Iar approval and will iiiul an ample held4 for furthering educational fneil- itics is indicated by the number of H2 inquiries alrcadv received by Suporin- Hm lendont Christensen from prospective Hjj students. Scores of boys and girls and even adults have applied for in- z formation. The superintendent said yesterday l that in all probability adults would H1 be admitted to the school. H; Following Regular Course. j Speaking of the plan last night Sup- i crintendent Christensen said: I "Heretofore in passing on applica- J Hons for exemption from school at- ) tendance we have never granted ex- j eruption except with the proviso that the child will attend some night school, j In the past this arrangement has not i "been whollv satisfactory, since the child is privileged to attend any of the priv-I priv-I ate night schools in some of which the 1 course of studies offered arc not of the best. With the night school of j our own the child will be kept under ! the surveillance of the school system Hj I and can progress along lines in accord with the general aims' of the public schools." The night classes will be" held three times a week. Regular courses will be followed and airamrcmcnts for gradu-ation gradu-ation will be fixed. At flm only the elementary subjects will be taught, though the curriculum may be broad-rned broad-rned and extended later on after the plan has been thoroughly Worked out. |
