At the present timo it is next to impossible to securo a vote on any measure until tho objections of all the cranks and tho politicians havo been overcome and an agreement reached. The United States souate is not a bright and shining cxamplo of mujority rule, for the majority doesn't rulo tin-all tin-all the patience of tho country is exhausted ex-hausted and tho senators themselves are physically unable to prolong the contest. Reasonable time should be allowed for debate or for au examination of the qualifications and personal records of appointees to federal positious, but no one senator or any number of senators should be allowed to tie up the work of tho senate for an indefinite length of timo because, forsooth, such has been tho custom during the hundred and odd years of the republic. It has always becu a mystery why a majority party in tho senate has refused re-fused to adopt a cloture rule. It is still a mystery. |
