SEATTLE CITIZENS PUSHING CLAIMS Big Demonstration to Celebrate Cele-brate Enactment of Law Planned; Kansas City Begins Campaign. WASHINGTON, Dec. 25. Active campaigning for federal reserve banks to bo established under the new banking bank-ing and currency system has been begun be-gun by a half-dozen big cities in different dif-ferent parts of tho United States and among the scores of telegrams received today at thc treasury department more than half were devoted to laying bare the reasons for executive approval of their claims. Secretaries McAdoo and Houston, the "organization cominittoc" authorized by tho new law. to choose thc reserve cities, today considered tentative plans for making up the list of not less than eight and not. more than twelve cities to be given federal banks. Under tho law, the organization Committee is given tho utmost freedom in naming these cities, and thc two cabinet officers offi-cers intend to nialec au exhaustive, but rapid inquiry into tho geographical advantages ad-vantages and financial relations of most of the large cities. Two Plans, .Proposed. One plan that has been suggested to the secretaries is that they make a personal investigation of the claims of cities which aro regarded as possible locations, lo-cations, and anothor is that they hold hearings in Washington. Ofiicials who favor the firs!, plan believe that it can be carried out. more quickly and to greater advantage by reason of tho number of persons who could bo reached. A decision probably will be announced "within a few dnys. The campaign for a reserve bank has been pressed most vigorously by Seattle, Seat-tle, Wash. Scores of telegrams wcro received re-ceived today from bankers and business men of Senttle pointing out-its proximity proxim-ity to Alaska, which is to bo included in the system, its advantages as a financial finan-cial center, and urging other reasons for giving it a reserve bank. According to one telogram, Seattle is planning a big demonstration to celebrate thc enactment enact-ment of the law and to boom her chances for getting a bank. Kansas City in Fight. Kansas City, Mo., is making a similar simi-lar fight, with tho support of many nearby cities. Minnesota banks and business houses took up thc cudgels today to-day in bohalf of St. Paul and Minneapolis Minne-apolis nnd bankers in tho south are speaking in favor of Atlanta, New Orleans Or-leans and Dallas, Vhiladolphia and Baltimore arc at. odds over ono bank. Altogether it promises to be lively for tho organization committee boforc itB work is done.
