Show RITCHIE TO PRESIDE IN CRIMINAL COURT This Is the Only Important Change Made in the Assignment As-signment of Judges. Judge Morris L, Ritchie wilt preside over the criminal division of the Third judicial district court after January 1. 11)11, succeeding Judge Frederick C Loofbourow, who has presided over tho criminal division since his appointment by Governor Styry in 1011. This will be tho only Important change In thc assignment assign-ment of Judges for the coming yenr. It is expected that Judge. T. D. Lewis will preside over thc naturalisation court, which has been :aken care of by Judge i Ritchie during thn past year. Jndgo C. Morse, as presiding Judge of the court, will continue to handle the assignment of cases criming heforo the civil division, and preside over the divorce di-vorce court. Judge George G. Armstrong will continue, to handle the probate court matter.1;. Thc Third judicial court next year will begin its sessions on the fir.t day of January; April and September, Instead of the second Monday of these months, as in tho past. This change will be a big accommodation to the attorneys and makes it possible for tho judges to hnn-dlo hnn-dlo thc alfairs of the court more easily. It will especially affect thc supplemental .setting of cases nt the boginnlng of ench term. Under tho law, attorneys have the right to have their cases set at any term, providing the matter comes to Issue five days before the beginning of any such term. The regular setting for the January Jan-uary term ban been made, but a supplemental sup-plemental setting will be made tomorrow. tomor-row. If the term opened tho second Monday In January, attorneys would, be entitled lo a setting as' late as five days prior to the second Monday, and would, therefore, there-fore, require an extra sotting, which would confuse the court and Herk's records. rec-ords. These settings affect me civil division di-vision only and have no bearing on the criminal division, the criminal Judge presiding pre-siding over his division. A setting of criminal cases will be made early in Jan-ua Jan-ua ry. Several Important cases are scheduled to come 'before the criminal division in tho January term, among which Is the case of thc state against Frank F. Merrill, Mer-rill, former guard at thc state prison, who Is accused of aiding and abetting the escape of George Parry from tho state prison last summer. |
