Of course, the wily Dick would not hesitate to pick up a promising player, but he is not worrying about ills roster as it stands. As far as the recruits are concerned, however, the group of new men is practically complete. Cooley is satisfied with his bunch and has no hesitancy in saying that, with the old men and the new, he will be in an advantageous position when the season opens on Tuesday, April 23. Of the recruits whose classic countenances coun-tenances and baseball togs are depicted herewith, Donivan is from New Mexico, lie shows speed hi the outfield. Scott Is a. Salt Lake boy and has played hereabouts here-abouts for several years. He Is a good catcher and hits hard. Lewis Is from Oakland. He ljesn the game last Sunday in the box and appeared to be a good man. Brunson, also a pitcher, played last year with Midvale, with which team his work attracted much attention. Mo Is a catcher and second baseman and a wonder with the stick. He hails from Kansas City. Ono or two more recruits are still due. From the newcomers Cooley will select enough men to fill out his roster. The old men include Billy Portler. catcher and outfielder;- "Heine" Spencer, outticlder; "Hlnky" Van, first baseman: "Bill" Morgan, Mor-gan, pitcher: Leo Dressan, pitcher: George Hummoll, pitcher (possibly); Johnny Pendleton, second baseman: "Germany" "Ger-many" Schlmpff, pitcher and utility. It Is possible that Cordtz. outfielder, and Perkins, catcher, may also wear Skyscraper Sky-scraper uniforms this year, to say nothing of "Brick" Devercaux. Jake Bauer, a fast outfielder, well known hereabouts, Is also expected to show up pretty soon. It was announced yesterday by wire that nil of the players regarded as members mem-bers of the Boise team had been released from their contracts and were now free agents. There are some rattling good ball players in t lie lot, and there will doubtless be something of a scramble for some of them. |
