Show ROWS AMONG PROGRESSIVES. It is, indeed, curious to see the length of distrust and opprobrium which the progressive Republican agitators display dis-play towards each other. Col. Roosevelt Roose-velt is denounced by the La Follctte wing of the progressives as a fraitor to La Follctto in inducing the Wisconsin Wiscon-sin man to come out as a candidate for President, and then nlyly seeking to undermine him and sot him aside. Pin-chot, Pin-chot, while nominally supporting La Folletle, actively intervened to prevent the Ohio Progressive Republican Stale Convention from endorsing La Follctto by name. Directly afterwards Pinchot, Garfield, and most of the shrieking progressives, dcserlod in a body to Roosevelt. Thereupon, Manager UouHcr for La Follctto denounced Pinchot for his desertion of La Folletle, and challenged chal-lenged Roosevelt's veracity and honesty hon-esty iir the whole transaction. And now G if ford Pinchot comes back, declaring that Manager llouscr was not only lying when ho charged Roosevelt with promising to support La Follette, but that llousor himself was among the first to urge L;i Folletle to quit the race and support Rooaovolf. Hero's a nretly mess indeed! If llousor himself was "among the first" I to dosort La. Follottc and go to Rooso volt, and this while all tho time La Fol. lotto's manager, that, is something that the public hears first from Pinchot. and Pinohot is not such an absolutely trustworthy trust-worthy authority that his word carries conviction of the correctness of his statoment on the face of it. But it is a very pretty quarrel as it stands; and while it may not help La Folletle very much, it cortninly isn't going to help Roosovolt. |
