The adjoining farms have not yet been .drained of the 3u0-acro feet of water which poured through the break and, In addition to this, crops arc suffering for the want of water which had been supplied by the ditch. Local officials of the company declare that the break was due to the defective Installation of a water pipe which supplied sup-plied a sprinkling tank near Clinton. Within the short space of a few hours thc torrent of water had destroyed thc canal bank for a distance of more than 100 fent. A short distance from thc break two rows of fruit trees, heavily laden with fruit, were completely washed away. Judge A. W. Agce, a director of thc company who resides In this city, states that It will bo necessary to construct about H00 feet of now canal around the break before the 'and in thc vicinity of Clinton can be supplied with water. This probably will add to the direct loes resulting re-sulting from the flood. Thc directors of thc- canal company declare that It Is Impossible Im-possible at this time to even estimate the total damage. |
