Show APRIL FIRE LOSSES. The fire losses in this country the present year continue lo be greater than thoso of any .year hcretoforo "recorded. "re-corded. Tho total for thc first four months of thc 3'car amouuts to $07,-300,350. $07,-300,350. This compares with $S7,577,-800 $S7,577,-800 in J 91 I. and $(57,222,050 for tho same four months in 1010- At this rale, tho fire losses of tho year would reach well along towards $300,000,000, and when wo consider lhat tho most of tho fire losses arc provenlable, it is a clear case that the fire loss in this county- is a reproach to the intelligence intelli-gence and carefulness of tho American people. There were 250 fires during April, as wc find reported in the New York Journal of Commerce and Commercial Bulletin, that inflicted a loss of $10,000 or over in each case. The largo fires during tho month which cost a property loss of $200,000 or over amounted to eighteen, the most important of which were as follows: Corlland. .V. It is quite true that large returns re-turns go to tho losers by reasou of the in s lira n co svstem, but, after all, it is a loss to the community, for the insurance in-surance companies pay only as they collect or have collected, money from the public for insurance premiums. It is to be hoped that some dny thc American people will rise up and de-'maud de-'maud a better care and a cessation of this preventable fire loss, but so far. there appears little indication of any such resolve.
