Show "DRVS" WOULD MEET "WETS1HDEBITE Manager for the "Wets" Raises Objection to Furnishing Crowd for "Drys." E. S. Shoels of the Anti-Liquor league who is managing the campaign for the "prohibition" forces, has directed the following fol-lowing letter to G. M. MacDowell of tho Manufacturers' and Business Men's association as-sociation f.nd manager of the "wet" campaign: "The 'drys' respectfully request you to furnish a speaker to discuss tho following follow-ing question at "Wandamere on Tuesday, June 13. "Resolved, That the citizens of Salt Lako City should, for the public good, vote 'Against Sale' of liquor on the 27lh Inst. J'Tho 'drys' will have a speaker there to uphold their part of tho discussion." When asked as to what action he would take regarding this challenge Mr. MacDowell Mac-Dowell said: "As I understand it this meeting at Wandamere Juno 11! is a meeting which Is being promoted by the Salt Lake Anti-Liquor Anti-Liquor league, and will be handled along the same lines usually followed by Anti-Liquor Anti-Liquor leagues In former campaigns. I am not opposed to educating the voters on this question, hut am opposed to assisting as-sisting our oppononts In gelling crowds at. their meetings. "I have mapped out a speaking campaign cam-paign which will be conductod In Salt Lake and other cities of the state. Whether or not any of these speakers will enter Into debate, I cannot sav at this time. I most, certainly would" not make an announcement that they would without first consulting tho speakers." |
