For city treasurer. C. B. Felt is frequently meulfoued. anil there are many who wish to see Treasurer Gideon Snyder reappointed. There are several applicants for tho position of elty attorney, attor-ney, among them Harper J. Dlninny, the present city attorney. James Ingebret-son Ingebret-son is regarded by many a probability for this position. Several prominent and efficient engineers engi-neers have, been mentioned for city engineer. en-gineer. George A. McGonagle. the present pres-ent city engineer. Is being urged by many large property ownors lo become a candidate for reappointment. Ills friends say that the loss of his supervision super-vision at a time when so many public Improvements are either in Hie course of construction or In contemplation would be serious. A. F. Doreinus and George S. Snow are among the others mentioned for this appointment. Chief of Police. Much of the Interest In the speculation as to who shall receive the pliu-es centers cen-ters in the appointment of a chief of police. For this position a. dozen or more names have been suggested and reaaons advanced as to why each should receive the appointment. Among those suggested suggest-ed arc l.t. F. Grant. Gen. E. A. Persons prominent In the reform movement In Salt Lake arc urginir the appointment of H. F. Grant for chief of police. Mr. Grant has been prominent in reform work anil for the last sixteen years has served as voluntary officer of the city. Much of his work along reformatory re-formatory lines has been with the youth of the city. Gen. E. A. Wedgwood Is a former army ornoer and at prosont Is adjutant general of the National Guard of Utah. .He has a large legal practice and It is understood under-stood will not consider accepting a. position po-sition as chief of police. J. B. Burbldge Is a former captain of police and at times has served as acting chief of police. po-lice. C A. Carlson Is a former police officer and Is at present a. deputy sheriff. Hay Naylor was at one time adjutant general of the national guard. He has had no experience as a police officer. Capt. W. C. Webb Is at present drill -master of the Salt U'iko high school cadet ca-det battalion. In his behalf it is urged that he is a splendid disciplinarian, though without experience as a police ofticcr. C. Frank Emery served two terms as sheriff of Salt Lake county. He Is at present a state health officer. W. J. Lynch Is the only one. of those nicnllonea who lias had experience as chief of police. po-lice.
