Today Js the first farmers' payday for the new beet sugar factory nt Austin. Thousands of. dollars arc being distributed to the beet-growers beet-growers of Sovler valley as a partial payment for the beets grown this year. The sugar factory Is running to capacity, but Is unable lo care for the Immense yield of beets in this section. The railroad rail-road lias been unable to handle all of the boots and thousands of tons arc dumped In huge plies at each station awaiting transportation to tho factory. The storm of Friday night and the Intense In-tense cold which followed delayed beet digging to some extent, but with warmer warm-er weather the digging has been resumed. Within a few days nil of the beets will bo dug and either shipped to the factory fac-tory or delivered at the various shipping points In the vicinity. This Is the first year that becLs were extensively grown In this part of the slate. With the establishment of a sugar factory In Sevier county Interest In beet culture was stimulated and many farmers farm-ers became beetgfowers. Six thousand acres of beets were grown in tho Immediate Imme-diate vicinity of Rlchileld. The ylelct was excellent and tho sale of beets from one acre amounted to from 550 to $100. |
