Show Perilous Situation in a Box Cam! Special to The Tribune. ! GREEN RIVER, Sept. 20. On last Friday Fri-day afternoon C. T. Bowen and wife and Mr. Corbott of Aineworth, Nev.. drove to the Jess Morris ranch on tho San Rafael river for an outing. When arriving ar-riving they, with Mr. Morris, decided to go up the river several mllea and take a boat along. Bowen and Morris wanted to float down tho river from Mexican bend through a box .canyon, where no man has ever gono 'through. Shortly after leaving, a cloudburst from the other side of the range swelled the river seven feot and tho Doys were in a canyon where they could not land and were swept away by tho roaring waters. They struck a rock, the boat, capsized and Morris was pulled under the water- When he came up he grabbed onto a rock, while Bowen had caught onto another, and they soon saw they were in a bad fix. It was impossible to get out. They took off their clothes and threw them away. Morris caught a pole In the driftwood and Bowen swam to him and Mr. Morrl3 being the strongest decided to put Bowen on the end of the polo and boost him up about twenty feet on the precipice where if he could get out ho could give the alarm. Bowen had to climb 1000 feet straight upvard and if he slipped it meant sure death to him. With his finger fin-ger and toe nails bleeding he succeeded ln getting out. He then had to go two miles to his -wagon for clothes and from thero he rode twenty-five miles to some ranchers to give the alarm, arriving there at 10 o'clock that night. "With Tomlin-ston Tomlin-ston and Cottroll and 1000 feet of rope the boys made haste, while Bowen went on to get more help. The rescuers arrived ar-rived at the scene In the morning. Morris Mor-ris was still hanging to the rock he had held on to for ten hours. When the boys had lowered him the rope, which In order to reach he had to swim about seventy-five seventy-five yards, he tied It around his body and the boys pulled him up. When he was safely landed on lop his nerve gave way and it was some hours before ho could be taken home. Upon learning of the accident here, excitement ex-citement prevailed and a searching party, headed by T. S. Turner, with horses and rope, left for the placo and met the rescuing res-cuing party on their way back.
