Show Illinois Central Graft Case. CHICAGO, Sept. 20. Both defense and prosecution scored In the Illinois Central railroad car repair "graft." hearing before be-fore Municipal Judge Brttggemeyor today. to-day. Richard Roth, formerly employed as a car Inspoctor by tho railroad company com-pany and a witness for tho prosecution, gave evidence construed as favorable to the defense, Frank B. Harriman, John M Taylor and Charles E. Hwlng, former oflicials of the railroad Roth admitted that none of the reports which ho alleges al-leges were "padded," passed through the offices of the accused. Irvine, a checker for the railroad, offered of-fered evidence, however, which was regarded re-garded as a point for tho prosecution. Irvine corroborated much testimony given by previous witnesses for tho prosecution prose-cution and further declared that ho had observed many Instances In which tho car repair books which ho presented to his suporior, bore evidence of changes when returned to him. |
