Show 1 UTAH DEPARTMENT Of G. A. R. Tt was at Salt Lake City, on September Sep-tember IS, IS7S, that the first post of tho Grand Army of the Republic was established In Utah. Tt was known as James B. McKoan Post No. 1. and was No. IS, Department of Nebraska, Georgo R. Maxwell, commander. On March 11, 1S70, Utah was made a provisional pro-visional department, and four years later. October 13, 1SS.'., the department of Utah, consisting of Utah, Idaho and Montana, was organized. Then, in ISSo, Montana was organized as a department, depart-ment, and in 1SSS the same action was taken in the case of Idaho, leaving the state of Utah as :i department, with a the McKcan post, as its organization of veterans. On May 23, 1SSI, John A. Tjix Post No. 3 was organized a Ogden, and this post was later consolidated with 1olTn A. Logan I'ost, No. 7, organized on January 21. IStUl. and the Ogden post is now known as Dix-Logan Post, No. .1. The first election of this post was held January 30, 1001, and Stephen Richardson' was chosen commander. Lloyd B. Stevens was the first commander com-mander of the John A. Dix Post, and 11. II. G. Minty was likewise honored in the John A. Logan Post. The second organization of the veterans vet-erans in Salt Lake was effected in is&u, ;.injl is known as Geo. R. Maxwell I'ost, No. 0, Aaron S. Post having been the first commander .thereof. In 1SD2, August; 2, Win. T. Sherman Post, No. o was 'organized in Prnvo with Alfred Saxey as commander, and tho records of the Park City post. W. S. Hancock, .No. -1, dale from its re-organization on Sopl ember 3(J. 100 1, when B. M. Spcrry was elected commander. The first of the Womons Relief Corps, the James P. McKoan, Mc-Koan, was formed on Jamiarv 14, 1SS5, with Mrs. Ida Lincoln as "president. Tho Dix-Logan Corps, No. 2. Ogden, was organized December 9. 1SS5, with Mr. Jetlie Sioidiens. president.. Maxwell, Max-well, No. .'!, Salt Lake, was organized February 1, 1S!2, Mrs. Joanna Melton, president, and on May lS'iU, Sherman Corps. No, G, was organized at Provo, with Mis Jos-ophine Kellogg, president. Reynolds Circle. No. I, Ladies of the G. A. 11. , was organized Jufie 2;1, .100 1, with Mrs. Christina A.
