It was 4 4 Armstrong who within a week 4 4- after taking control of the edi- 4 4 torial page of the Smoot 4- 4- "Mouth" began assailing men 4 4 whom ho perhaps had never seen 4 4 and did not know until he was 4 4- imported to use his especially 4 4 nasty talent abusing them. 4- 4 He kept up this vicious work 4 4 until he was called to a personal 4 4 accounting. His record was 4 4- found to l)c that of a common 4 4 criminal and blackguard. Ho 4 4 was found to have been pursu- 4 4 ing a shady life elscwhero than 4- 4- at Lafayette, Ind., from whence -b 4 he is said to have come to Salt 4- b Lake. It was found that ho con- 4 b ducted other nowspapers as he 4- b has conducted tho Smoot 4- 4 "Mouth," and that one of these 4- v failed because, it. is claimed, the 4- 4 respectable peoplo of Lafayette 4 b refused to further support it. A 4 4 number of innocent men lost 4 b considerable monoy on this ac- 4 b count, just as tho Smoot crowd 4 b is dropping thousands into the 4 b not which Armstrong mid ha 4. 4 crowd are' spending in a pitiable 4 4 struggle for public favor, 4 4 Armstrong attacked Judge 4 4 Goodwin and was driven to his 4 4 cover as a jackal flees from a 4 4 mastiff. Ho talked about uukept 4 4- financial obligations, and when 4 4- The Tribune informed him that -b b a citizen of Salt Lako had one 4 4 of Armstrong's unpaid bawdy- 4 4 house bills, and would tnke ten 4- 4 cents on the dollar for it. Ann-1 4- 4 strong Bays ho is not treated 4 4 right, is it that the price fixed 4 4 is loo high? If so, it is likely 4 4 the bill would be shaved to u 4 4 cents on tho dollar. 4-. 4 The Tribune will furnish him 4 b. the money to take up this bill if 4- 4 ho will, explain what course a 4 4 respectable, newspaper should 4 4- take, in- dealing with him, to 4 4 meet his iden of fair treatment. 4 v 4-4H-r-H-4!-4-?"l-4-4-4-4-4'4-4-H"F4F |
