Show All EXPERT FORESTER 10 TREA1THE TREES University of Utah Will Enlist the Services of A. Henry Miller. Arrangemonts have been mado by the University of Utah lo havo a number num-ber ot the trees on the campus, that are in rather bad condition, treated by Mr. A. Henry Miller, an expert forester for-ester and landscape gardener of Denver. Den-ver. These trees have only been planted plant-ed a few years, and for some Tcason or other they have bocome dwarfed, and this year tho leaves on a number of them a.ro already turning yollow. Mr. Miller thinks that by proper treatment these trees can be changed and again brought into good condition. His. method at first sight appears to be stopping the growth of tho trees; that is, ho provents the tree from growing above the ground, but makes the roots work for the tree food. The tree in this way does not become overfed, but, instead, a good circulation of sap is induced. The method of doing this is very simple. A large hole is dug iu the ground about fifteen feet from the t.roo and the water for the tree is placed hero rathor than boing placed immediately around the root. The roots reach out for tho water, and in so doing becomo fully developed. Salt. Lakers will no doubt be surprised sur-prised to hear that Mr. Miller thinks that many of tho trees oa the stroets that are now covered with worms and bugs, may, by this simple treatment, be mado td take on healthier appearance and in time lose all those objectionable features. Mr. Miller is highly pleased with Salt Lake. He believes tho conditions con-ditions here are almost ideal for the growth of trees according to his theory. the-ory. If satisfactory arrangements can bo made, Mr. Miller will make Salt Lake his homo. |
