Show WHITMTJEtE GIVEN CONTRACT. Only Two Bids Received for Remodel- . ing Quincy Schoolhouse. Special to Tho Tribune. OGDEN, June 29. A brief session of the Board of Education was held tonight, to-night, all members being present except ex-cept Mr. Browning. The bids for enlarging en-larging and remodeling the Quincy school were opened by the clerK and the board was surprised to find that there were onlv two The first was tliat of-George A. Vhitmire. $-1237, and the second was from C. J. Humphrey, $4240, a difference of only 3 in the two bids. AftT a discussion'as to why these two bids should be so close and why other contractors who had been furnished plans and specifications had not submitted sub-mitted bids, the board awarded the contract to the lowest bidder, Whit-mire, Whit-mire, and instructed the clerk to have contracts prepared, also bonds in a sufficient, suf-ficient, amount, and to have both instruments in-struments executed. There were fifteen fif-teen applications received for positions as teachers, and one teacher declined an appointment for the reason that, she had accepted a place elsewhere and could not be released. The Treasurer reported $9763.74 now in the treasury. |
