Show SLUMP IN ANTIJVIONY. Decliuo Has Been as Spectacular as the Riso Was Months Ago.. The recent decline in the valuo of antimony anti-mony has been ns spectacular in its rapidity ra-pidity and extent ne wan tho advance. Jn January, 1007. ordinarv brands were quoted at 2-1 i cents, and a few weoks ago th la metal was worth 23 cents per pound Since- then thorc has been a steady decline; de-cline; this week the prlco has dropped to Jr.,13 cents, says tho Engrlneorintj: and Mining Journal. The chief reason for this renmrkablo decline is the Increase In the supnlv, stimulated by the lilph range of price throughout 1906. For example, the Cult-Q Cult-Q States, which did not produce any antimony oro at all In 1905. producod about 200 tons In 1906. while Now Brunswick Bruns-wick alao became a producer again. Other Oth-er countries mado 'far greater Increases, particularly China, Chile and Australia. Tho Imports of antimony oro Into Great Britain In 1906 amounted lo S443 ionic tons, against only 1MS2 tons In 1S)05; while the Imports of regulus and crude metal in 1906 were' 5133 tons, against 3481 tona In 1905. Jt 13 nocdless to look further to account for the recent decline de-cline In the vnluo of the metal. .However, It may be remarked that some dealers appa rently misunderstood the condition con-dition of the market and accumulated rather large stocks of material, which recently re-cently have not been easily .salable. It lis an Interesting feature that during the recent great demand for nntimoniat load the shortage in the supply of that product prod-uct was such that ono roncern. at least, bought antimony pre and smnltod It with lead ore In ordtn" to produce autlmonial lead, something which was never previously pre-viously done in metallurgical practice,' no far as wo are aware. |
