Show ONE CI9IV OFFICE WILL CEJSEJO EXISI Hereafter Salt Lake Will Have No County Superintendent of Schools. The ofiico of county superintendent of schools for Salt Lake county will cease to exist at midnight tonight, and John W. Smith, the incumbent of that office will retire. Saturday was his last day in office. His office was abolished by the legislature of .1005, the act abolishing it. lo go into effect on June 30, 1907, nnd Mr. Smith's term, which would have expired sooner, was extended extend-ed to expire at (hat time. 4 W Under the -new arrangement. Sail. Lake county, outside of Salt Lako City and Murray, is divided into two school districts, dis-tricts, each of which will have a superintendent superin-tendent of its own. Mr. Smith has been elected lo and has accepted the position of superintendent of the Jordan school district. The other district is tho Granite district. Salt. Lako City and Murray, being cities of the first and second class respectively, re-spectively, will continue, as hitherto, to manage their own school affairs and have their own superintendents and boards of education. |
