"Idaho is menaced b3 the Mormon church and its political and church liberties are threatened by the hierarchy. Tho Republican Re-publican party of Idaho must declare itself boldly on tho question. Tho Democratic party has taken a broad stand on this question and the Republican Republi-can party must do the same." This statement, mado in tho meeting of the anti-GoodJng faction of the Republicans Re-publicans in this city last night by Rev. E. A. Paddock, loader of the faction, caused considerable excitement and comment. In his opening tho minister stated that the Republican party could no longer close its eyes to this Mor-man Mor-man menace. Other speakers wore as outspoken as the clorgvmau, Tomorow tho Republican primaries to eloct dejogatcs to the count3r convention, conven-tion, which elects delegates to the State convention at Pocatello August 1, will bo held, and it promises to be ono of tho most bitterly contested political po-litical fights ever witnessed in tho city. Tho fight will bo between tho Gooding and auti-Gooding factions. The fact that W. E. Borah is tho candidate can-didate of the Mormon church for tho Republican nomination for United States Sonator will bo discussed at the primaries and this means a red-hot time. |
