Show SENATORIAL POETRY. Honest Ben Tillman of South Carolina, Caro-lina, In the last year of his second term In the United States Senate, Is said to be writing n book In defense of the body In which he Is the most spectacular spectacu-lar member. He vigorously denies the charge, and yet It is reiterated by the -newspapers of the capital and of New York, which seem to be circumstantially informed on the subject. To disprove the charge Senator Tillman Till-man recently dropped Into poetrj'f find this was his effusion: A NEW RHYME FOR MOTHER GOOSE. Teddy and Till Tillman wont up the hill To get the people a good rate bill; Teddy sent messages, Till he snorted, And all tho while the lawyers cavorted. When In tho Senate the vote was over The peoplo were not In It, tho railroads in clover; Will Teddy fall down and break his crown And Till come tumbling after? The proof is ample. With that kind of literary style and that kind of taste it Is quite certain that Senator Tillman's Till-man's work will not be a defense of the Senate. It will merely be nn accusation. |
