Hi was encouragingly received by the Commercial club, whose Good Roads committee Is Instructed by the board of j governors to co-operate with him. The I Salt Lake Automobile club is also oc- I tive In support of the good roads move- L ment. Certainly, no other one thins 1 would bo as advantageous and profit- I able to the people of the whole State ' as to have good roads everywhere, at all seasons of the year. , V,. have been outspoken in this cause for years, and congratulate the public and all concerned upon this special Interest In-terest that H being aroused In having good roods; and trust that this Inter may continue until the State Is grid-Ironed grid-Ironed wlh the best roads to be found anywhere The material is all here and close at hand the topography of the country could not be better adapted to tho making of good roads; all that Is necessary to get the best results Is to put at the work tho needed skill and money. Wo put skill first, for without that, vast sums of money could and ' would be spent to no purpose; but with It, the best of roads can be had for comparatively com-paratively little money. Hy the way, there Is to he a National Good Roads convention (the fifth annual) an-nual) held In Portland, at the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, June 21st to 21th, both inclusive. In this convention, It Is Important that this city and State should be represented. Governors of the several States and Territories, county road officials, Mayors May-ors of cities, presidents of all commercial, commer-cial, agricultural, Industrial, transportation, transpor-tation, development, civic Improvement, Improve-ment, educational and religious organizations organi-zations are requested and expected to appoint at least five delegates to represent rep-resent their respective bodies in the convention. All such officials, together with members of Congress and State Legislators, are made cx-officlo members mem-bers of the convention. To give eclat to this convention, there will be an official Good Roads BpeclsJ, which will leave Chicago May 25th on a transcontinental tour, stopping at prominent points en route, probably In this city among other places, and arriving ar-riving ut Portland In time for the convention. con-vention. This special will go over the Northwestern - Union Pacific - Oregon Short Line-Oregon Railroad & Navigation Navi-gation Company's system, under the personal direction of President W. H.
