Show DEMOCRATS DENY CHARGES Denver Defendants on Witness Stand. Swear They Showed No Discourtesy Dis-courtesy to the Supreme Court Watchers. Testimony Refutes Much of That Offered Of-fered on the Previous Day. DENVER, Colo., Nov. 29. The taking tak-ing of testimony was continued today to-day in the contempt cases before the Supreme court, wherein Democratic officials and ward leaders are accused of violating the Supreme court order appointing special watchers on election duy. Several of the defendants were on the wltnesy stand, including Frank Kratke, chief llcensw Inspector. Both Kratke and Alderman Michael Mahoney denied having shown any discourtesy to the Supreme court watchers, thus refuting the testimony given yesterday. They also denied that Alfred Welmer was forced out of the polling booth because he asked for a second ballot upon discovering dis-covering that the one he had handed him way already marked. Told by the Judges. Kratke and Mahoney, ns well as other witnesses, said that Welmer was- told by the Judges to mark the ballot as he saw lit, but before scratching out the writing already upon It. Welmer became be-came angry, according to the witnesses, and left the polling place In a huff. Kratke, Edward O'Mallla, Charles Kofsky and other defendants, ns well us Alderman Mahoney nnd other witnesses, wit-nesses, swore that there was no repeating, repeat-ing, as far as they knew, In precinct eight of ward five. City and County Clerk Julius Aichcle testltlod that no such name aB Doud appeared upon the registration and poll books of that precinct. It was alleged al-leged by the Republicans that Doud was a rci'Ident of the precinct, and would swear to having voted repeatedly repeated-ly upon solicitation of the Democratic Demo-cratic workers. If he was granted Immunity Im-munity from arrest. The court declined de-clined to give the guarantee. Offered to Vote Whole Family. A feature of the testimony was the statement of Kratke that Oscar Anderson, Ander-son, who served as a Republican challenger, chal-lenger, a resident of precinct eight of ward five, had come to him on election elec-tion day and offered to te his entire family for the- Democratic ticket for the sum of $5. Previous to this. Anderson had denied having made any such offer. The prosecution rested Its case this morning, after taking the testimony of several new witnesses and recalling others who were on the stand yesterday.
