Aftcr assuming the role of a detective de-tective and standing for an hour shortly after sunrise In the shadow shad-ow of a doorway near the new opera-house opera-house sjhe Is completing In South Fourth avenue, Mount Vernon, Mrs. Naomi Duncombc. a wealthy woman, followed a young woman who came out of the new building and upbraided Patrick Pa-trick J. Ring, manager for the Dun-combe Dun-combe property, who joined the girl. Her Indignation rising, Mrs. Duncombe at last struck Ring a blow between the eyes and another on the left check. The blows were delivered while Mrs Dun-combo Dun-combo and Mr. Ring were talking, In South Fifth avenue, near the residence of Father Flynn of the Church of the Sacred Heart. Mrs. Duncombe is the widow of Alfred Al-fred H. Duncombe, who left her an estate es-tate valued at more than $1, 000,000. She occupies a mansion at East Chester. She Is 56 years of age, but is vigorous, and spectators say that when she delivered de-livered the blows on Mr. Ring's faco he winced and ran away from her. Mrs. Duncombe has Just about completed com-pleted a now opera-house at a cost of 570,000, and Mr. Ring has had genenil supervision of all the work. She says he has always acted as her real estate manager for a few years and she placed explicit confidence In him. She sold that she had heard tales about Ring's .conduct, but he always denied them when she questioned him. Then, she says, she heard that all was not right In the opera-house, and so she decided to Investigate, and found that tho reports re-ports were true. She left her home nt 5 o'clock to watch the building. The altercation followed. Sho declares that Ring, confronted, swore at her and that she then struck him. Her blows and the loud words attracted at-tracted a crowd, and she Jumped on a trolley car and went to her home. The girl In question entered the Church of the Sacred Heart to escape tho attention atten-tion of the crowd. |
