July The Journal De St. Petersburg, the semiofficial semi-official organ of the Foreign- office, prints this morning one of Its Infrequent Infre-quent editorial articles dealing with official offi-cial denial by the Japanese Government Govern-ment of the reports of the mutilation of Russian wounded. The article says: "A simple denial is not exculpation. We do not deny that our wounded are well treated at Sasebo and other Japanese Japan-ese cities where well-nrganlzed hospitals hospi-tals are operated, under the eyes of Europe; Eu-rope; but on the field of battle, when the Russians are forced to abandon the wounded, a cruel fate awaits them, as their agonized cries there cannot be heard In Europe. "A photograph has been takon by Dr. Stankevltch of Gen. Mlstchenko's division, divi-sion, showing horribly mutilated Russians, Rus-sians, with hands out off and tongues cut out and pierced by thongs. An officer offi-cer was found In a pitiable condition, butjStill breathing. He was restored to consciousness and said he had been fired upon deliberately by a Japanese soldier. His deposition, signed by tho Russian authorities and several military mili-tary attaches, will soon be In our possession." |
