Show TIRED OUT IN 1LLINI0S Republicans Take Ten Days Recess. After Being in Session Over Week Halt Is Called in Proceedings. Fifty-Eight Ballots Have Been Had, and Adjournment for Ten Days Is Taken. SPRINGFIELD, 111., May 20. The Republican State convention con-vention today took one ineffectual inef-fectual ballot for Governor and then adjourned until May 31. The vote on the ballot, which was the fifty-eighth, fifty-eighth, stood: Yates. -183; Lowden, 392"; Dinccn, 3S5Vj; Hamlin, 113; Warner, 53; Shcr- m:tii. Jfi- "Plnrpo 'JO The recess was taken by unanimous agreement among the candidates for Governor. The motion to adjourn until 2 p. m., May 31, was made by Senator Gardner. There was a storm of "ayes" followed by another of "noes." "The chair Is unable to decide," said Chuirman Cannon. "The clerk will call the roll." As the roll progressed it became evident evi-dent that the negative votes on the question of adjournment had not come from the delegates who with few exceptions ex-ceptions eagerly grasped the opportunity opportun-ity to go home. The vote stood: Noes. SS: yeas, 13-11. The convention broke up and the delegates rushed from the hall, cheering, the band playing, "Home. Sweet Home." All the candidates agreed to the eleven-day recess, and tonight all headquarters head-quarters were closed, the candidates going go-ing home to arrange a canvass of the State before May 31, |
