Lieut Winfield Harper and thirty-nine men of F company of the seven- t ;S I Mth United States infantry were caught on May S in an ambush by several hundred Moros t ?g I'L American officers and lifteen men were killed and live men were wounded. The ambush oc- J 5ir6 1 at Simpatem, on the east shore of Lake Ligusan, island of Mindanao. The officers killed in the ambush were First Lieutenant Harry A. Woodruff and Second f I lieutenant Joseph H. Hall, both of the Seventeenth infantry. Lieut. Woodruff was born in In- ' idianaand entered the service from the State of Xew York. Lieut.
