| Show THE UTAH POWER COMPANY COMPAN I 1 the water for this plant is diverted by a small wooden dam placed in the bed of the stream just below the big cottonwood company s tailrace it is conducted through a wooden flume five feet wide by three feet deep a distance of one and three fourths miles and delivered into a four foot riveted steel pressure pipe which conveys it to the receiver at the power house the steel pipe has a total fall of feet the present installation consists of two pelton water wheels made to deliver 1000 horse power on the shaft at revolutions per minute the transmission line is about twelve miles long and consists of three no 2 B 8 bare copper wires the power is delivered to the substation sub station on brigham 0 street where there are transformers for converti converting convertine nr the three phase high tension current to low V Z f I 1 0 t N IT w aw WEST WALL PIPE LINES AND FORE BAY OF JORDAN NARROWS PLANT tension two phase in which form it is delivered to two kilowatt rotary transformers and by them transformed into a volt direct current for the use of the salt lake city street railway company the total capacity of output in kilowatts kilo watta of the brigham street transforming station is ia rated at which is 19 equivalent to about 1070 mechanical horse power in addition to the electric power plants above enumerated there are several smaller ones which w are doing e excellent xe ellent service for the purposes intended k generating plant in logan canyon furnishes light for the beautiful little city of logan hyrum city has electric light works of its 0 own wn tb the e long lonar drain tun tunnel nel connected with the great ontario mine furnishes a flow of water from which the power is derived which generates electricity for light ins ing park ity and which furnishes motive power for the two mills of the ontario company at the lagoon a small plant furnishes the current for the lighting of this popular pleasure resort during the summer time while it is learned that american fork is to have electric light works of its own during the comin coming season another small plant but little spoken of now is the one near mill B in big cottonwood canyon which several years ago was utilized in the generation of power for the operation of the machine drills at the reed goodspeed mine the success of the enterprise being fully demonstrated before the death of captain H C goodspeed the introduction of electricity into several of mining camps to be utilized for power and light has greatly stimulated mining in operations by the utilization of electricity mines and mills located in inaccessible places can be worked to advantage and the new power is rapidly gaining in favor and it promises to do away with steam power almost entirely in the very near future the robinson bros company manufacturers of the popular mining 11 shoe gave a dinner concert and ball to its patrons em aloyes and friends at the ladies literary club on friday evening january 5 the event was a pleasant success and well attended it is understood that there is talk of thi the e erection of two new smelting smelling sm elting plants in the near future in the buckskin mountain just over the utah line in arizona jos E ray of fillmore will be interested in one of these enterprises while the other plant will be put in at the coconino mine the ore to be treated carries excellent copper values |
