Show GIANT POWDER EXCITE. TI EXT. Grass Valley, February ISth. The war against the giant powder commenced commen-ced last night in the Lureka mine, by an attempt to assassinate two of the crew who work in that mine with a single-hand drill. The two men, named Sleesc and McCIusky, quit work at 1 1 o'clock at night and started for their boarding-house, which is distant from the mine about one hundred and fifty yards. They got within u few yards of the boarding-house, when they were fired on by the assassins. Two shots were Gred and a third cap was snapped. One shot took effect in Sleese's chin and neck and one. struck him in the thigh. There were three of the assassins, assas-sins, who immediately ran away. Sleesc is not dangerously hurt. The triantpowder crew have quit work at the Eureka quartz mines, in this place, there is much talk about a vigilance organization. Tho question is : shall shotguns or mine owners direct afi'airs in their mines, & F. Bulletin, |
