Show EDUCATION IN LOGAN Commencement Exercises of the City Schools Logan May 14The commencement exercises of the city schools were hfld in the opera house yesterday afternoon and evening There are over 1200 school children in Logan and there was a mistake in not having the exercises ex-ercises in the tabernacle Hundreds were turned away from each meeting The teachers and trainers of the little ones deserve special praise for the effective ef-fective work of their charges Miss Hubbard city superintendent 6f schools deserves great credit for the work she has accomplished Judge J Z Stewart gave the closing address at the afternoon session D A Benedict returned home yesterday yester-day from a trip to Pocatello Mrs Frank Benson had just reached home and was seated after having attended at-tended the citv schools entertainment yesterday when her 3yearold boy came in and said Mama T have a good big bonfire She stepped to the rear of the house and found that the little fellow had set fire to the scattered scat-tered remnant of a straw stack which is in close proximity to two frame barns and other improvements Through the timely aid of the neigh hors that which would have in a very few moments ben a very disastrous fire was under control without any serious damage The county road between Logan and Poplar grove is made lively today with backs and carriages conveying the city school children to and from the grove this being their field day Henrv C and Robert James sons of David James of Salt Lake and Willard Thomas son of Judge Thomas of Logan Lo-gan passed through Logan today by team on their way to the Bannock mines in Idaho Sam P Hall farmer and Lorenzo Hansen prominent dairyman and a member cf the agricultural board are in town today from Wellsville The outbuildings of Chandlers farm just below the city were destroyed by fire this afternoon The loss is small Logan river I lowering sInce last weeK owing to the cold weather and unless heavy rains or extra warm weather sets in I will be at its normal height soon Mr George H Clamp president of the Utah Mortgage Loan association returned today from a visit to Salt Lake Mrs Nellie Blair arrived this morn ins from Salt Lake City She is to take the leading role in the Celebrated Case tomorrow night Miss Bell Salmon of the Brigham Young college went to Ogden on this afternoons train Hotel Arrivals S Forrest C J Feytel New York J E Bradley James A Adams S Louis H McWilliams Kansas City r J Maloney St Joseph Jo-seph Mrs T N Taylor Denver W A Moebins Salt Lake |
