Show I As Sean by Dun I New York May 14R G Dun i Cus weekly review of trade tomorrow I I vill i say I I Speculators have enjoyed an advance I I In wheat corn cotton and some other I 1 products though obliged to sell wools i ad sugar at lower figures in order to I I realize Stocks have advanced 7 cents I J prr 100 and trust stocks lost 3 cents 1 without enough demand to constitute a consttute II market Imports of merchandise 18 j 382019 for the week at New York alone j i are 94 per cent larger than a year ago II I I making an increase of 47 per cent forth I for-th past week and have affected the exchange markets and helned further I I shipments of gold which amount for the week to 2750000 but are practically jl i cally balanced by receipts from the interior in-terior and cause no serious apprehension teror ferous sion of financial disturbance Men feel that present conditions are I I only temporary although they tend to prevent permanent improvement in I I trade and stop immediate investment The winter wheat report which is supposed to indicate a yield of 297000 OOD bushels is contrasted with late reports re-ports much better or much worse huts hut-s distrusted mainly because all department estimates of for ear partment estmates acreage yearr have been wildly erroneous I The output of the pig iron for the I t week ending May 1 was 170280 tons i j against 173279 April 1 and the stocks H unsold exclusive of those held by the t great steel making companies increased f In-creased only S808000 tons Several furnaces especially those producing 1 f undry iron have stopped production l for this month but no important I chanGe appear in pig Iron which is f = J 1 1o < quoted at 825 for grey forge at Pits burg and 925 for Bessemer and 12 for No1 at New York though only 1025 is asked for southern Reduced southern freights here have not altered the market materially and at Chicago also the local prices have been reduced Te demand for finished products has hen below the capacity of the works in operation and the award of the contract for the Montreal bridge which is said to be 90 cents for beams against 155 demanded from consumers in this country has occasioned occa-sioned trouble in the beam association asocaUon and there are reports that it has dissolved las solved Angles are quoted at 95 cents per 100 pounds a shade lower and steel plates are quoted lower here than at Philadelphia Copper is active with large sales of lake at 1035 and tin plates are quoted 10 cnts below prices fixed by the association asso-ciation and 50 cents below prices of the same grades of foreign plate Woolen goods are doing better than for weeks past and yet there is not enough demand to create enthusiasm or to raise prices while there is great uncertainty regarding the future of the market Sales of wool have sharply I decreased and for the week barely exceed I ex-ceed a weeks consumption while prices are weaker at eastern markets according accord-ing to some reports nearly 1 cent per pound at Philadelphia and at the west the heavy buyers for speculation have begun to sell at some concessions with good reason Failures for the week were 264 in the United States against 244 last year and 34 in Canada against 33 last year On Wall Street New York May HThe market was under steady and unremitting pressure all day from one sourceor another and the result is a wide gap in the total valuation of securities compared with the close yesterday which it would require re-quire many millions of dollars to bridge The only cheerful factor in the market was some small early buying for foreign account which however failed to sustain values and the exceptional ex-ceptional strength of the Gould shares The market was weak however under un-der vague apprehensions that there would come news of new further heavy shipments and the bears made this an effective instrument for keeping up the depression Before any nQtable rally could occur news was received that the presidents of the anthracite coal roads and companies had received summonses sum-monses from the attorney generals of flee at Albany to answer to charges of conspiracy under the new antitrust laws Marked heaviness developed a a I result in all of the anthracite coalers and in sympathy in the entire lst especially Decially In the industrials which might be proceeded against on the same charge a that brought against the coal companies Sugar continued heavy and declined life The railway list generally sold off the lst enerl of grangers leading but recovered a portion of the loss before the close The Gpuld shares I were notable exceptions to the weakness I weak-ness on the market Throughout th Balance of the list losses were general The closing was steady the slight recovery re-covery being well held Trading was in small volume in the railway and miscellaneous bond market mar-ket with the firmness generally frmness generaly apparent ap-parent in the speculative isue Northern North-ern Pacific terminal which had been under pressure throughout the week 000 lost 3 The aggregate sales were 740 000The The features of the government bond speculation was the purchase of a block
