Show t MERCUB MEBCUBY NOTES Showing in the West Geyser Activity Ac-tivity on the West Dip A Mercury reporter was shown through the new workings of theY the-Y st Gevser property recently by Superintendent Banner and was as > tonlsfted at the immensity of the ore 4 1o bodies At one point the pay ore is 18 p f feet thick and is being mined by three levels This ore which is now supplying lpyes plying the Geyser mill averages from Jlyin 18 per ton and is the best ever produced by the mine Jn the past two t months in mining and milling a hunt hun-t hundred tons of ore a day it is estimated esti-mated that for every ton of ore extracted f tracted a hundred more have been de t i veloped so that at this rate it will take jt a nerson acquainted with the higher matnematies to figure out when the ore fSre body ill be exhausted The saving made i the mills of this property is probably not equalled by any cyanide plant in the world At the Geyser mill onlY a trace is left in the tailings superintendent Benner recently won a hundred dollars on a wager that the I tailings did not carry a dollar a ton Although the samples were taken from I a tank before it had been washed 11 dowii a competent assayer could onlY I get 62 cents out of it The GeyserMar ion will pay its regular dividend this i month and unless something unforeseen unfore-seen occurs will accumulate a handsome hand-some surulus besides The writer visited the west din Saturday I Sat-urday and noted many improvements At the La Cigale the mill site is being prepared and a long line of teams was bringing in the immense timbers for the framework On the townsite a force of men was at work clearing the streets and alloys and beautifying the plat A number of houses are already finished and occupied and others will I be completed in a short time A goodly force of men was pushing work on the I Edna May where the ore reserves are being added to every day and at the I Daisy the work goes on briskly with most gratifying results The Dayton and Douglas the Vanderbilt the John Godin and the Nathalie groups are all being systematically prospected and I tlie results are bound to be excellent The property owners down there are showing plenty of vim and nerve and I deserve the reward which is already being realized in many instances Taken altogether the dip presents a scene of activity and prosperity very gratifying to all having a interest in the prosperity of the district During the week Judge Street W S McCornick and A Jessen made an inspection of the workings of the Gold Dust property and were so well pleased that they took steps for the creation of a mil in the near future A sit for the structure was selected on top of the ridge close to the main workings so that the tailings can be dumped each way with equal facility and Superintendent Jessen was instructed to commence at once the sinking of a doublecompartment working shaft which will be connected with the lower levels in a month The mill will have a crushing capacity of 200 tons daily and a leaching capacity of a hundred The mine has been under development now for manv months and great ore reserves which seem almost shave s-have been blocked out This is undoubtedly un-doubtedly one of the great mines of the camp and all will rejoice that it is on the eve of commencing its output of the yellow metal The experimental run of the Northern North-ern Light mill proves the ore to be peculiarly pe-culiarly adapted to the cyanide process The first cleanup shipped this week gave returns at the rate of 17 > S5 ounces silver and 13000 in gold to the ton More gold was extracted than was shown bv fire assay and only 30c in gold remained in the tailings The percent per-cent of silver saved was also highly satisfactory The management now propose to add 20 more tanks at once and more will bo nut in from time to time until the full power of the machinery ma-chinery is taxed Frank Hines to whose intelligent efforts much of this success is due accompanied the first clcanun to Salt Lake The stockholders of the Brickyard met at Salt Lake a few days since and decided to build a mill on that property prop-erty work to begin upon the return of H A Cohen from old Mexico which is expected in about two weeks The mill is to be of large capacity and as Colonel Wall is one of the best mill builders in the west this reduction plant will undoubtedly he the peer of any in the district This season promises I prom-ises to constitute an era of millbuild ing three now being assured this summer sum-mer the La Cigale Gold Dust and Brickyard with the Golden Gate Daisy Edna May and Chloride Point to hear from L J Clark superintendent of the Wachusetts on Lion hill was in camp Monday securing supplies for the mine I He informs us that a contract to push the lower tunnel in a distance of 150 feet further has been let and work is now progressing Eleven men are now employed on the mine and more will be added PS the work progresses Fine developments have already been made and 16 assays which were recently taken from various parts of the property prop-erty gave returns of from 30 to 160 ounces silver The Wachusetts is a old patented producer which is bound to again come to the front I is being explored by Dern Airis and other of what is called the old Mercur crowd A miner employed in the Gold Dust was almost covered with falling ore Saturday but fortunately escaped with a number of painful bruises and an injured in-jured leg The latter will be a good a new in the course of a few weeks C M JIcEntire went to Salt Lake the first of the week and in an interview inter-view published in The Herald sneaks in high terms of the camp and its future He is one of the oldtimers here and knows the camp like an open book Frank L and C A Allen have been out in Desert canyon 45 miles southwest south-west of Mercur in Juab county where they found a good mineral showing and brought back specimens of ore running run-ning 23 per cent copper 1 in gold and 27 ounces silver The boys who went out this week to develop the property free specimens exhibited some gold speimens from the Uintah reservation which run S71000 per ton Soon after discovering I discover-ing the lead they were arrested and removed from the reservation |
