season thus far The one feature in which interest centered cen-tered was the minuet danced by 12 young ladies and gentlemen It carried one back a few years to the days when 1 exhibition dances were given here every season by the belles and beaux to the delight of the fashionable although rothing s < > ambitious as this minuet Uus perhaps ever undertaken by them Those who participated were in full court costume the ladies being exquisitely ex-quisitely gowned The music was furnished by the Twentyfourth infantry band stationed in the first balcony and it was of the 1 highest order In the rear of the stage the greenroom green-room had been fitted up as a refreshment refresh-ment room The table was illuminated with wax tapers while rugs were scattered scat-tered about and every nook was decorated with palms and potted plants making the apartment very attractive at-tractive A PROCESSION OF CARRIAGES At 815 the procession of carriages commenced to arrive and for three 1 quarters of an hour there was a constant con-stant stream of equipages passing the theatre so that by 9 oclock every seat in the dress circle was occupied by those who came to dance while the first balcony was well filled with spectators spec-tators The floor extending from the dress circle over the parquet and far back into the stage was covered with canvas can-vas and when the curtain went up for the minuet the scene was one of daz ing brilliance to which the toilets of the ladies the posturing of the dancers danc-ers under the flashing lights and the strains of music all contributed THE MINUET Those who danced the minuet were Miss Ora Harkness Miss Clara Colton Miss Tessie Alff Miss Eloise Sherman Miss Hunt Miss Kate Judge Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Gurney Lieutenant Welch Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Miller Mr Brookwalter Mr Gw yon Officer and Mr Max Smith The dance was of the classical order as distinguished dis-tinguished from the exclusively court style and was composed by R L Lan drum for the Young Ladies Aid society so-ciety The music was by Mrs J J Kiely of Detroit arranged for the band by Chief Musician Schaffner In the various features the 17th and 19th century cen-tury movements were blended adding to the variety of the dance and making it especially adapted for exhibition purposes pur-poses The entrance was a gavotte then came the encore followed by a gavotte and minuet With these movements move-ments the dancers advanced to the center of the floor where the minuet movements were given to the best advantage ad-vantage It was followed with the closest attention and at the close a burst of applause told how fully it was appreciated The performers were enthusiastically recalled and as The beautiful maidens moved down in the dance With he magic of motion and sunshine of glance it was truly a sight the careful brow might smooth and make age smile and dream itself to youth THE BALL When the stately minuet was over the dancers formed and led the grand march and the floor was at once thronged and enjoyment reigned throughout the entire evening The Young Ladies Aid society deserves de-serves gTeat credit for the perfect way in which all the arrangements were made
