Show J i I I UNCLE SAM AFTER IAHO MfN TIMBER DEPREDATIONS NEAR THE UTAH LINE Indictments Against Three Citizens of Franklin Utah Officials Will Be Asked to I sist Special to The Herald Boise Dec 7The United States grand jury today indicted William Whitehead Peter Christiansen and William Gibson of Franklin Oneida county Ida for illegally il-legally cutting timber from government land Officers will Idave today to arrest them They will be tried at the Blackfoot Black-foot term in March The governmsnt has also brought suits against these men and the Oneida Mercantile Mer-cantile company of Franklin to recover amounts ranging from 500 to 2200 each for timber illegally cut Congressman King of Utah hus been retained to rspre sent the defendants in the civil cases Judge Beatty required the following witnesses nesses to give bond In 200 each for thir appearance when th timber cases come up or be committed to jail John Oliver son Thomas Durant W P Monson and James Frew of Franklin and Howard Egan of Richmond I is understood these indictments are the first of a number to be returned for the same offense but the prosecution of the other cases will be delayed until Mr Cozier takes his place as United States attorney The timber depredations complained com-plained of arc near the Utah lina and some are in Utah and the United States officials in Utah will be asked to cooperate cooper-ate in the prosecutions I prosecutonsl |
