Show ACTION OF THE REDS Officials Eave No Uneasiness as to the Outcome Washington June HThe Washing ton authorities have received no advices ad-vices as to the holding of a big powwow pow-wow among a the Uncompahgre Utes in Utah a reported to protest against the projected allotments and opening of the lands in severally Like mayor may-or the tribes who view allotments with disfavor a contrary to their traditions tradi-tions and customs the Uncompahgres have not wanted their lands divided and believe that their rights are thus invaded They claim a much larger stretch of territory than is recognized by congress which after an executive congC order setting apart the Utah valley of I I the Uintah river affected by later gay emmentil acts gives them the right to allotment of these lands of the reservation reser-vation The allotments were directed by the Indian appropriation l for for the allot 183697 which provided alot I meat In severally of all agricultural 1 i lands of the Uncompahgre Indians and the opening of unallotted lands April i 14 lESS to location and entry except I those containing gilsonlte asphalt elaferite and similar valuable deposits These deposits have been the issue of a protracted fight in congress and the Indians probably base their opposition to some extent on the ground that these valuable properties belong to them The allotments have not yet been begun Chief Chavanaw apparently II appar-ently the leader in the trouble is a halfbreed Indian The affair is not expected to result in any serious trouble at this time and the Indian outcome officials have no uneasiness i a to the |
